London Heathrow Airport

London Heathrow is the largest international airport 12 miles to the west of London. London Heathrow Airport is the world's busiest international airport and is also the world's second busiest cargo port. Heathrow is regarded as the hub of the aviation world, over 90 airlines that use Heathrow.

The airport has 4 terminals catering for over 62 million passengers per annum travelling to over 200 destinations. London Heathrow Airport is big but only has 2 main runways & can get congested. Heathrow is situated close to two motorways - the M4 & the M25.

Taxi services are available to take you to where you would like to go. There are many ways to get to Heathrow, by car, by train, by bus, coach and tube. By car, Terminals 1, 2 and 3 are located next to each other at the centre of Heathrow, Terminal 4 is located to the south of the airport and has a separate entrance.

Heathrow Airport Hotels

There are many hotels available around and near Heathrow airport if you decide to stay near the day before your flight. Hotels are not very far away from the airport, around 2-15 miles Sheraton Heathrow Hotel, Comfort Inn Heathrow, and many, many more available. The check-in islands are at the main entrance to each of the terminals. Flight and check-in information is displayed at the entrance to each check-in area. There are no you should check in at least 2 hours before your scheduled departure. In each of the departure lounges, there are lots of food halls, shops and general needs such as toilets, ATM, wheelchair access and currency exchange desks.

Heathrow Airport Shopping

You can save up to 40% when shopping in the airport; tax-free which means it is so much cheaper to shop inside the airport than the highs streets.

The duty free allowance is: Goods in which have been obtained outside the EU. 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars, 2 litres wine or 1 litres spirits, 60cc/ml perfume or 250cc/ml toilet water £32 worth of gifts.

When coming back from the EU to the UK the allowance is 3200 cigarettes, 400 cigarillos, 200 cigars, 3 kg of smoking tobacco, 110 litres of beer, 10 litres of spirits, 90 litres of wine, 20 litres of fortified wine i.e.: port or sherry.

There are many different shops within the airport, you can pick up some last minute toiletries in Boots and the Body shop, Swim wear in many of the sports shops, flight entertainment and many, many more.

Top tips before flying are to make sure you have eaten correctly before flying, if travelling with small children be prepared to take new small toys to keep them occupied. Take lost of small snake and bottled water. Make sure you have your passport and flight tickets on you before leaving for the airport and be early or you may miss the check in and you will be unable to fly. Remember NOT to take any sharp objects on the aircraft with you such as tweezers, kitchen cutlery etc.

Heathrow Airport Connections and Transfers

International connections do not need to go through Immigrations or Customs but all International to Domestic connections do. Domestic to International connections can use the special Immigration check points if baggage is through-checked.
