Travel by Train Newcastle Airport

The A1 road network gives travellers fast access to Newcastle Airport from the North and South.

Travel by Bus or Coach

Bus services run from Newcastle city centre (Eldon Square Bus Concourse) to the airport entrance approximately every 20 minutes during the day and less frequently during the evening, Monday to Saturday and all day Sunday. Single fare from around £1.50.

Sale Pepe (St George's Terrace, Jesmond. Tel. 0191 281 1431). A little gem on the outskirts of the city and one which boasts a lively Italian menu and an impressive Michelangelo-style ceiling.

Special Occasions

Tantalus (7 Higham Place, Newcastle. Tel. 0191 232 4949). A mixed menu for both the big spender and the bargain hunter. Tantalus offers diners fantastic food without the fat; all the meals are prepared using low-calorie oils and creams - except the desserts.

Set in 1,000 acres of prime Northumberland forest and moorland, and surrounded by two championship golf courses, Slaley Hall is a grand retreat and a symbol of Edwardian elegance. Despite the grandeur of the surroundings, the atmosphere is relaxed and the restaurant family- friendly. The England football team use the hotel as a stopover as do many of the top Premiership clubs when playing Newcastle United.

Places To Visit & See - Days Out - About Newcastle

Laing Gallery (New Bridge Street, Tel. 0191 232 7734). Just a short walk from the main shopping area in the centre of the city, the Laing is a popular gallery to hang out. Artworks appeal to most tastes and there's also a bustling cafe. The Laing mainly displays paintings (check out Gaugin's Breton Shepherdess), many of which are of international importance.
