Travel From Milan Airport

Buses from Milan Airport

Two services run between Linate airport and central Milan. ATM number 73 (www.atm-mi.it) leaves from Corso Europa near Piazza San Babila every ten minutes from 5.30am-12.20am. Tickets cost ,1, the journey takes 20 minutes. Visitors staying in the north of the city should take the STAM airport bus (Tel. +39 (0)2 71 71 06) from Piazza Luigi di Savoia next to Centrale station. It takes half an hour and costs ,2, with departures every 30 minutes from 5.40am-9pm.

Travel by Taxi

Thanks to the proximity of Linate to the city centre (seven kilometres), taxis are plentiful and relatively affordable. The trip takes between 15 and 25 minutes and costs approximately ,25.

Low Cost Cheap & Cheerful (Around a £10)

La Bruschetta (Piazza Beccaria 12. Tel. 02 86 92 494). Not far from the Duomo, the pizza comes fresh from the wood-oven in full view at this highly recommended pizzeria. Closed over New Year.

Around £20

Trattoria Madonnina (Via Gentilino 6. Tel. 02 89 40 90 89). Traditional Milanese restaurant with retro decor. Nice range of warming-in-winter meat dishes.

Special Occasions

L'Altra Pharmacia (Via Rosmini 3. Tel. 02 34 51 300). Plenty of discerning locals turn up at this traditional Milanese eatery for its legendary risotto.

Exclusive Restaurants

Aimo e Nadia (Via Montecuccoli 6. Tel. 02 41 68 86). This inviting restaurant is a metro ride from the centre but has a serious reputation. The sommelier has been rated the best in the country. Excellent truffle risotto. Smart dress essential.

Public Houses (Pubs)

Pogue Mahone's (Via Salmini 1. Tel. 02 58 30 97 26). Dark and smoky Irish pub popular with the city's English-speaking expats. Make friends in the epic queues for the loos.

Live Entertainment Music

Blue Note (Via Borsieri 37. Tel. 02 69 01 68 88). A must for lovers of live jazz, this is the only European outpost of the Blue Note chain, with four other venues in the US and Japan.

Nightspots Clubs Nightclubs

Il Gattopardo (Via Piero della Francesca 47. Tel. 02 34 53 76 99). The hottest nightclub in Milan is inspired by London's famous Limelight Club and occupies a deconsecrated church. Rocket (Via Pezzotti 52. Tel. 02 89 50 35 09). This new arrival on the club scene is a spin-off of the popular Atomic Bar and attracts a cool underground crowd with its hip electro-clash and Britpop music.

Places To Visit & See - Days Out - About Milan

Corso di Porta Ticinese - everyone heads for the navigli area but this is a popular and less obvious meeting point. The square in front of the Basilica of San Lorenzo is a magnet for young people and there are some great bars in and around Via Mora.
